Norfolk League Division 2 East
Great Melton B 125 / ao (6 pts) lost to Aylsham St Giles 239 / 6 (25 pts)
Great Melton’s B team succumbed to a second heavy defeat as one player dominated for the newly promoted visitors.
The loss of Lee McMahon at the start of the second over did not alter the approach of Aylsham’s top order, with wicketkeeper batsman Chris Deller smashing a career best 150 over the course of the next 43 overs before lobbing a simple catch to Imaad at cover off the impressive Matt Rushton (2/22). Leo de Salis (2/41) had added to his growing total, and Imaad helped himself to a wicket, but it was Deller’s brutal yet restrained onslaught which will remain long in the memory.
He despatched anything straight either to or over the boundary and beyond.
He was supported by the impressive Jakir Hussain, whose wristy action helped him accumulate 41.
In response, Melton’s innings never really got going. Connor Stearman (15) and Phil Bugg (26) were 2 of only 3 that made double figures. Imaad (41) displayed his laconic elegance in accumulating 37 before top edging Iqbal Hussain into his own forehead and needing a lie down. Returning with a helmet he added just 4.
Avinash Panday (4/28) and Jakir Hussain (4/29) were the pick of the Aylsham bowlers.
