Left-hand bat; Right-arm seam bowler.
Having completed his Human Biology degree at Loughborough University, Daniel is now working in London as a Research Assistant at Anthony Nolan so, in common with many others who have followed a career path to the capital, he may only play the occasional game for us this season. ‘Dobbie’ joined the club in 2008 when he was frequently seen at Melton Park practising in the nets with his older brother Ryan and Jake Mardell. In 2009 ‘little Hayward’ was a member of the successful U15 side that won the South Norfolk Community League and, in the same year, he also managed to get a few games for the C Team and impressed, especially with his fielding and his ability to bowl straight. In 2010 Daniel was a regular in either the Cs or the Bs as well as playing for the U17s in the Carter Junior Cup. He had a disappointing 2011 when he struggled to get into the senior sides but was not deterred and bounced back in 2012 with a series of excellent performances with the ball that brought him 21 wickets and a best performance of 5-24. His first attempt at captaincy proved memorable as he led his Gladiators team to victory in the Junior Festival in 2011. A quiet unassuming young man with a good sense of humour, Dan needs just one more appearance to reach 100 for the club. He has taken 82 wickets and is improving as a batsman. He has a top score of 42 so that elusive first 50 can’t be too far away.
