The visit of Derbyshire and England Women’s Fielding Coach, Cookie Patel, to Great Melton proved a great success.  First Cookie passed on some of his knowledge at Coaches Workshop at Wymondham College on Thursday evening which attracted 14 coaches – 8 of them from Melton, then, on Friday he was at Melton Park to coach some of Melton’s young players.

First the U11s then the Girls took part in intensive but very enjoyable sessions with one of the foremost fielding coaches in the country.  Cookie, a Level 4 coach and ECB Regional Training Officer, impressed with his energy and passion for fielding and his ‘keep it simple’ philosophy.

It was a real coup for the club, particularly Coaching Coordinator Simon Carding,  in attracting such a high-ranking coach to Norfolk for the first time and Cookie was very  impressed by the set-up at Great Melton, particularly the fact that, on a rather wet Friday evening, 107 youngsters were enthusiastically playing cricket!
