GREAT MELTON U13s beat THETFORD U13s by 31 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League
An unbroken 2nd wicket partnership of 131 between Fergus Hughes and Matt Ling laid the platform for Great Melton U13s to continue their winning run in the South Norfolk Community League with a 31-run defeat of Thetford. After skipper Ryan Howard was bowled by J.Baulch for 1 in the first over, Hughes was joined by Ling and, after a watchful start the pair accelerated well, playing some fine shots to all parts of the ground. Hughes scored an excellent unbeaten 62 that included 9 fours while Ling grew in confidence as his innings progressed and he finished with two successive fours through mid-wicket in his 37 not out. Baulch (3-0-12-1) was the most impressive of the Thetford bowlers.
In the visitors’ reply wickets fell steadily with Craig Wilson (3-0-11-1) bowling his usual tight spell and Ryan Howard (3-0-13-3) causing problems with his left-arm seam. Having removed Plumpton (7) and Nichol (1), Howard got the key wicket, trapping the dangerous Tristan Caley lbw for a big-hitting 57 that included 2 sixes and 9 fours. Thetford’s opener had batted very well to keep his side in the match but his departure destroyed any outside chance of challenging Melton’s big score. Baulch (7 not out) showed potential with the bat as he had with the ball but the visitors finished on 101-5, Hughes (2-1-9-1) taking the other wicket to fall. Beth Harmer (3-0-19-0) and Ben Bailey (2-0-8-0) also bowled good spells.
