GREAT MELTON U13s beat DEREHAM U13s by 58 runs at Dereham in the Alan Bridgewater Trophy.
After winning the toss, Melton skipper, Luke Marchant decided to set a target and bat first. Melton’s openers Marchant & Fergus Hughes found it hard going but managed 42 off the first 7 overs, mainly due to a lot of wides being bowled which made fluent scoring difficult. In the 8th over Fergus was caught for 10 off Jarrett’s bowling. Matt Ling came in at number three and also found it difficult to score freely, but Marchant was still trying to play his shots where he could and retired after reaching 30. Ryan Howard then quickly put on a quick 27 runs before getting bowled by Coppsy. Tom Moye managed to hit a 4 off the last ball to give Melton a score of 123-2 with Matt Ling finishing on 13 not out.
Dereham came out to bat looking to score at 8 an over to win the match. Melton opened the bowling with Craig Wilson who started with a maiden in his first over and a wicket off Jarrett (0) in his second over with the score on 5. By the fifth over Dereham were 9-1. In the sixth over Lewis Thurston got the wicket of Bane (0) when he was caught by Pat Walton which brought the score to 16-2 wickets. Over the next 10 overs Melton didn’t manage to get any more wickets, but they did manage to restrict the runs. So, after 16 overs Dereham finished on 65-2 with Jarvis 19 not out and Coppsy 25 not out. Melton’s pick of the bowlers were Craig Wilson with 3-1-2-1, Pat Walton (2-0-6-0) and Thomas Moye (3-0-8-0).
