Player of the Year, Olly Harris, will step up to skipper Great Melton’s First Team as they attempt to make a quick return to Alliance Division 1 following relegation last summer. With Richard Waddell stepping down because of his family commitments, Olly, who captained the team when Richard was unavailable last year, was voted in as First Team skipper at the A.G.M. last Tuesday. He will be supported by Jack Pearce who will combine a role as First Team Vice-Captain with that of Midweek 1st Team Captain. With Lee Whiddett (A Team), Tim Hales (B Team), Simon Carding (C Team) and Chris Elliott (Midweek A Team) all duly re-elected the only other changes are to the Sunday set-up with Tim Hales captaining the Mid Norfolk League side and a new skipper being sought for the Sunday Friendly side, although Kevin Frazer is staying on in the role until someone else is appointed. If anybody would like to take on the organisation of 6-7 matches the Sunday A Team play, please contact the Chairman or the Secretary.
Chairman, Steve Phoenix, congratulated all associated with the club, but especially the hard-working officers on a “very successful 2014”. Even though the First Team’s did not prove quite good enough to survive in Division 1 after their promotion in 2013, they were always competitive and several defeats were by slim margins while the A Team remained unbeaten in Division 4, gaining promotion. The club’s 15 teams played a record 179 matches with the juniors winning 65 out of 80 whilst amassing 8 trophies.
Treasurer, Grenville Ireland, presented his 20th and final report, paying tribute to the efforts of the Fundraising Sub-Committee, ‘100 Club’ organiser Celia Phoenix and Melton’s junior section in helping the Club make a surplus of £3,521 on the year with income totalling £35,141 and expenditure £31,619. Grenville, who had already been presented with an award at the End of Season Celebration as well as winning the Norfolk OSCA for his outstanding service, was given a vote of thanks before handing over the reins to new Treasurer, Richard (Leo) deSalis.
With the finances in sound condition, subscriptions (Seniors £35, 16-18s, Students & Unemployed £17-50, Juniors (U16) £5) and match fees (Weekends £6/£3, Midweek £3, Junior £2) will remain the same.
Other than the captains, officers elected were: President Andy Seeley; Chairman Steve Phoenix; Secretary John Burdett; Treasurer Richard deSalis; Welfare Officer Celia Phoenix; Membership Secretary Steve Clarke; Groundsman Mike Phoenix; Junior Development Officer Steve Phoenix; Coaching Coordinator Simon Carding; Women & Girls Coordinator Chris Brook; Junior Representatives Joey Greenslade, Aimee Palmer & Laura Edge.
